A Senior Adult Behavioral Heath Program
At Northern Nevada Medical Center

Senior Bridges at Northern Nevada Medical Center offers inpatient and outpatient programs for adults in Reno, Sparks and the surrounding area who are age 50 and older, and are experiencing emotional or mental difficulties. Senior Bridges is the only behavioral health program in the region that is located within a full-service hospital. That means that in addition to mental health concerns, Northern Nevada Medical Center can also treat a patient's medical health concerns.

Inpatient Program

Senior Bridges CoupleThe inpatient program at Senior Bridges offers psychiatric intervention for adults, age 50 and older, who have experienced:
  • Depression
  • Suicidal attempts or threats
  • Loss of appetite, sleeplessness or isolation
  • Psychosis
  • Mood disorders
  • Anger, aggression or combative behavior
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Schizophrenia
  • Anxiety-related disorders

Inpatient Services

  • A psychiatrist will perform a psychiatric evaluation within 24 hours of admission
  • 24-hour nursing care in a secure setting
  • Medication management
  • Individual, family, group therapy
  • Development of treatment and aftercare plans
  • Restoration to best possible level of functioning
 
Interdisciplinary Treatment Team

An interdisciplinary team that includes physicians, nurses, therapists and other healthcare professionals treats adults who are admitted into the inpatient program.

The intensive outpatient program at Senior Bridges is more intensive than a traditional outpatient program and is designed for short-term stabilization and resolution of immediate psychological problems.

The program treats senior adults who have behavioral or emotional difficulties but do not require the intense level of psychiatric care provided by inpatient programs.

Common Signs

  • Difficulty concentrating, making routine decisions, remembering details
  • Lack of interest or pleasure in life and becoming more reclusive
  • Changes in appetite or sleep patterns, with decreased energy level
  • Feeling irritable, depressed, overwhelmed, hopeless and useless, sometimes with suicidal thoughts
  • Feeling helpless, often with more physical pain

The Program

The goal of the intensive outpatient program at Senior Bridges is to restore a sense of self-worth to patients and return them to an optimal level of productivity.

  • Comfortable relaxed setting
  • Patients are with others who are working on similar issues in a group therapy setting
  • Patients return home at the end of the therapy day
  • Supportive environment to foster independence and self-confidence
  • Morning or afternoon sessions
  • Average attendance is two or three days per week
  • Patients can participate in this program while they continue to work or live at home
  • Individual therapy and group therapies
  • Professionals from many disciplines work with patient and family
  • Lunch provided

  • Coping skills
  • Anxiety and depression education
  • Cognitive therapy stress management
  • Anger management

The Admission Process

Senior adults, age 50 and older, can be admitted to Senior Bridges through self-referrals, or through referrals from an emergency department, assisted living facility or physician.

The facility is open for admissions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and a staff member will meet the patient at the hospital or another location to complete a preadmission assessment.

Payment

Medicare, Medicaid and other health insurance programs may cover inpatient psychiatric care. To inquire about insurance coverage for a specific situation, please call the intake department at 775-356-4071.
