The Northern Nevada Medical Center anesthesiologist is the perioperative physician who provides care to the patient throughout his or her surgical experience. This includes medical evaluation prior to surgery, consulting with the surgical team, providing pain control and support of life functions during surgery, supervising care immediately following surgery and medically discharging the patient from the recovery unit.

Ambulatory anesthesia
The Northern Nevada Medical Center anesthesiology team is a leader in the field of ambulatory anesthesia. Today, the majority of our surgical procedures are performed on an ambulatory, or outpatient, basis. Our highly qualified team combines the latest in anesthesia techniques with convenience, professionalism and compassion to allow our patients to return to their usual activities in as short a time as possible.

Neuroanesthesia
Northern Nevada Medical Center has a full staff of neuroanesthesiologists who are available for a wide variety of neurosurgical procedures. Our neuroanesthesiologists have extensive experience in all forms of neurological surgery. Patients with neurological disease must be evaluated carefully and have their anesthetic management tailored to their particular condition and the procedure being performed. Northern Nevada Medical Center has a large neurophysiologic monitoring team that uses electroencephalograms (EEGs) and other monitoring technologies to continuously assess the function of various central and peripheral nerve pathways to detect injury. Because the needs of the neurosurgical patient are unique, the coordination between the surgeon, the anesthesiologist, the eletrophysiologist and the operative team is both crucial and complex.
 
Pain center
The pain management team at Northern Nevada Medical Center performs inpatient and outpatient consultation for acute and chronic pain disorders. The pain management team's services include epidural, patient-controlled analgesia for postoperative pain, medication management, therapeutic/diagnostic blocks and implanted devices.

Vascular anesthesiology
Northern Nevada Medical Center's team of cardiovascular anesthesiologists is well-versed in complex thoraco-abdominal aortic reconstruction, as well as in routine cardiac, thoracic and major vascular surgical cases. These procedures employ the latest techniques in monitoring and management, including the use of transcranial doppler, and EEG.

Critical care medicine
The critical care medicine division is responsible for patient care in a 10-bed medical-surgical ICU. Anesthesiologists and critical care physicians provide multidisciplinary care for all types of medical and surgical patients.

The expertise of the Northern Nevada Medical Center Department of Anesthesiology is well recognized. Our physicians are either board-certified or board-eligible and have completed extensive training in their specialty and subspecialty areas. The team provides a wide range of anesthesia services from basic inpatient and outpatient services, to the subspecialties of cardiac, ambulatory and neurosurgical anesthesia, in addition to acute and chronic pain management.
